Throughout time and across cultures, lanterns are lit in remembrance of the dead, and as a guiding light from the transition from the earthly body into whatever lies beyond.  This lantern serves the purpose to honor those that have passed, bringing them back into our current reality.  It was begun during the beginning of the dark time of the year, when the veil is thinning, and the otherworld and this world become a bit closer together.  Lot's of otherworldly activity surrounded the creation of this piece.
 
The lantern is made entirely from 100% wool - some highland wool and some Icelandic wool, with 100% cotton making up the vines.  It fits over a vintage lighthouse shaped and embossed glass from "Red Lobster", lending it's unique shape to the shape of the lantern.  
It is adorned with crocheted marigolds, which are said to guide the souls who have passed back to their homes, with the lantern lighting their way.  There are Ghost Pipe flowers which are an otherworldly plant, often mistaken for a fungi, who serve as the mind of the forest and wild earth.  Ghost pipe helps us to connect with that which we fear or that which causes us pain, and view it outside of ourselves to expand our perspectives.  There are four other mushrooms attached to the lantern, which remind us that all that goes into decay feeds life that will come around once more.  Energy is never eliminated.  It just changes shape and form.
 
This lantern stands just shy of 12" tall.  It is illuminated with a small battery operated candle that sits inside the glass jar.
 
Optional:  Option to purchase lantern along with 4 different flower essences that were made in a small quaint graveyard in DownEast, Maine, for those that wish to work with flower essences.
The essences are:  Dead Man's Fingers (Made from the Xylaria polymorpha fungi that was growing on a particular grave.  This essence helps with resolve with those that have passed, and things that were left unexpressed), Child's Birch (Made from a grand old birch tree with the energy of playful, joyful childhood and helps to connect us to that along with helping us to work through loss and regret having to do with time), Crossroads (Made at the cemetery gate, and helpful for work at choice points), and Kin Tree (Made from a birch tree that is growing out of the base of an old pine, alongside a sister pine, which is about relationship, in this world and with the otherworld.)
