Grandmother Medicine is a series of classes to support the rekindling of practical folk-medicine, connection with the natural world, and empowerment through wisdom.
Classes are held on the first Thursday evening of the month at the Weald Bethel Community Center (39 Weald Bethel Lane) at Maine Seacoast Mission campus in Cherryfield, Maine. They are led by Community Herbalist and Wellness Practitioner & Mentor, Jennifer May. Classes will run about 90 minutes, with a one hour presentation followed by time for questions and answers.
The next three class subjects have been set and will take place on September 4, October 2, and November 6.
November 6 - "Grumbles in the Belly" - Digestive Support with Botanicals
December 4 - "In The Wake" - Supporting the body post-viral illness
January 8 - "Tree Medicine" - Working with tree medicine in the winter
February 5 - "Breath is Life" - Supporting the respiratory system with plants
The intention of the Grandmother Medicine series is to share wisdom about various health subjects, to learn about supports and practices that can bring greater wellness and well being to individuals, and to bring a greater presence of folk medicine practices into communities. Through the weaving together of tradition and science focusing on local flora, shared in storytelling fashion, guests will find that folk medicine is approachable and practical.
Classes begin at 6pm and will run to about 7:30pm. They will be held in the Ed and Connie Graves Center building (the first building on the right after pulling into the parking lot.)
Pre-Registration is requested. Class minimum is 5 participants, maximum is 24.
Classes are donation based, with a recommended scale of $5-$20.
Donations are made at the time of the class, in the form of cash or Venmo, unless other arrangements have been made.
Please note that while donations are encouraged, no one will be turned away regardless of financial ability.
